Hi! I’m an older learner who just started at UMN this semester. While I am technology proficient (my whole career has been in desktop applications,) I am finding the switch to Chrome, The Google Suite, and integration with Canvas to be cumbersome, inelegant and tedious. I have become accustomed over many years to the Apple apps and how they integrate seamlessly. I am hoping that maybe some more seasoned students know some things I don’t. Right now the things that are driving me nuts:Does Chrome have to open a new window every time I open it? I just want to keep my environment clean with just the windows I use often. Is there no way to rearrange my open taps to an order of my choosing? Is the whole Google Drive/Google Docs thing as awful as I think or am I being resistant to change? I can’t seem to do a split screen between two Google documents and I loathe how limited the customization within the app is. I don’t want to switch back and forth between Docs and Drive; I want them to be seamlessly integrated. Somewhat related: is there a single platform that can be used for all Courseware and Library materials so I can have all my reading in one place and use one set of tools for navigating, highlighting, and commenting? Or does everybody just jump around to several different proprietary sites with their own reader. Even when I download materials, they often don’t all work in the same readers (like Adobe Digital Edition or Kindle), and some of them don’t work at all. Should I favor pdfs then over epub and just use Acrobat? What is everyone else doing? Also, unrelated, any suggestions on best apps for maintaining calendaring and workflow? Many thanks in advance for any helpful input.
