Disclaimer: This is mostly satire. Don’t take it too seriously—I’m just having fun. I like this series despite its flaws, and there’s nothing wrong with that. That said: I need to talk about what is probably one of Kamachi’s silliest writing moments in GT, and the fact that the fandom never brings it up is criminal. For those who don’t know/remember: in the Toaru universe, looking at a Grimoire without proper "preparation" can cause serious injuries—or just kill you outright. Now, during the events of GT2, various things lead to a confrontation between Anna Sprengel and the Misaki + Misaka team. At some point during their "fight" (one-sided slaughter), Anna transforms various inanimate objects into Living Grimoires—the kind that kill you if you so much as look at them.Anyway, Misaka had exploded a few pages earlier (standard stuff), but then makes a dramatic comeback and saves Misaki by firing a railgun at these Grimoires. Here’s the problem: how did she do that without looking at them? And why wouldn’t she look? She usually does aim before firing. Now, normally this would just be a typical plothole. Maybe she just glanced at them. Maybe Kamachi forgot the whole "Grimoires are deadly to look at" rule. Bad, but understandable.BUT.Kazuma Kamachi, that son of a Living Grimoire himself, explicitly reminded us that Grimoires are dangerous and that “even a glance” is enough—literally two pages before this happens. So what happened? Did he just forget what he wrote seconds earlier? Is this 4D chess or brain fog?Let’s explore the theories:1. "Kamachi forgot" (We're only humans after all / Kamachi is a hack Route)I mean, it's extremely silly, but he could have simply forgotten. It's really strange, it really is. I find it so funny. Please, God, let this be the case.Chance: 90%2. "There's a reason" (Conspiracy / Kamachi glazer Route)You know how everyone (and their moms) is complaining that Mikoto can’t accept the existence of magic because “she’s a bigot / stupid / we must maintain the status quo forever”?Well, forget about those complaints! There’s a theory that makes Kamachi the greatest genius writer in all of fiction. One popular theory is that the Archetype Controller is involved somehow. You know, that magical artifact mentioned like twice in the last ten years and then forgotten? The thing that supposedly keeps “science” and “magic” separate even though espers are basically magic with extra steps?Wouldn’t it make perfect sense if Misaka was affected more than others, since she’s literally AC’s "mascot"?It would also explain why she had such a weird, intense reaction to seeing Aiwass during GT2!...Or maybe not.Chance: 1% (but my heart wants to believe)3. "Kamachi Forgot, But We Can’t Admit It" (a.k.a. The Coping / Delusional Reader Route)This is where we all end up.We keep reading despite the “10-year-old girls with giant boobs” incident. We keep reading through the endless “hahaha the girls hit the MC” jokes. We keep reading even though character development moves slower than continental drift. We keep reading even though no one ever really dies unless it’s in a flashback. We are cooked. Now, let me give it to you:"Despite the contextual clues telling us that Misaka came at the last second, we can all pretend to believe that she was there hidden somewhere somehow when Anna explained that you shouldn't look at the damn things. Then she just somehow predicted where they would go by looking at Misaki and shot a railgun at the damn things and her aim was perfect somehow."There it is.Chance: 9000 billion%. I'm beyond saving.TL;DR:Kamachi reminds us that even looking at a Grimoire can kill you literally one page before Misaka shows up and blasts a bunch of them without dying or even flinching. Either he forgot, there’s a super obscure lore reason, or we’re all just coping because we can’t stop reading this series no matter how unhinged it gets.EDIT:After writing all of this, I just re-read that passage and she actually calls them "drones."The fact that she can give that description implies that she saw them. It also implies that Misaka defeated magical cursed knowledge through the sheer power of delusion. She didn’t need rituals or preparation or anything. She just thought “nah, I’m not reading allat” and that was it, gentlemen. She’s the GOAT.I don’t even. I now think this is the official implicit explanation for what happened. But I’m still very confused. She’s my favorite character btw.
