I'm looking for brainstorming / any range of advice on assisting a painful open wound which isn't recovering on my palate. I am early 40s, non-smoker, very rare drinker, fairly healthy. I had a gum graft (lower two incisors) harvested from my own palate 8 days ago. The graft site and one of the donor sites have healed beautifully. But the other donor site has simply not healed. The skin cover got folded over, so the donor site is exposed. I can't get a photo, but it looks much like the intervention a photo here: https://ift.tt/8pXTkQU confirms it's not infected, but it's simply not healing at all. It's getting increasingly sensitive -- the gauze I was using began to irritate, so I'm not using it any more. I can no longer drink cold drinks, rinsing with salt water or hydrogen peroxide & water is hurting more. Basically, this is the type of injury that, were it not in my mouth, I'd want to pad up with tons of neosporin and forget leave be for several days. I'm really looking for any advice to help this poor injury heal. My dentist seems to think I just have to wait it out while rotating tylenol and ibuprofen. Some of the questions I"ve had are: -- Is there anything that would work like a soothing balm on this injury? I saw a paper about hydrogenated olive oil, but am waiting for that amazon delivery to arrive. I was using tea bags (black or licorice), but the bag itself has become too abrasive. -- is there any type of over the counter product or hack I can use to protect the injury from my tongue? Since the gauze seems too abrasive at this point, I'm at a loss. I wish there were some edible silly putty or something like that. -- is there an optimal pH I should be targeting in whatever I put in my mouth? Everything seems abrasive and possibly too acidic. The only thing I could eat today was a protein shake mixed with warm water. Even yogurt hurt. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Honestly I'm trying anything.
