CMIYC had its first appearance in the release of the single IDZ released on January 9, 2013. Being a B-side of the single it didn't get an MV, but to this day it is still part of the top 10 songs played live, even having been retired since August 2017.Now, as many here will know there is a CMIYC compilation on youtube that defies all logic:It has survived or dodged copyright takedowns. This is not so strange, as we can find hundreds of similar examples, but, even so, we have seen fancams and other content being taken down over the years. It has obtained so far 30 million views, ranking as the 2nd most viewed video related to the keyword BABYMETAL from a channel outside the official one (the first being Kingslayer). Compared to the most viewed official videos it would rank 6th, ahead of IDZ's MV (surprise!), Doki Doki's MV, and Headbanger's MV.This video was released, mind you, in December 2017! This is practically 5 years after the release of IDZ's MV, which right now has 29 million views. It has achieved this by being one of the most horrendous compilations you can find. After digging into these stats let's think about the context in which this video was released. In December 2017 it had been almost two years since the release of MR, with no new songs in between, and there would still be 5 months until the release of Distortion. These circumstances were relatively ideal for casuals and some curious youtube surfers to "discover" this gem from so many years ago.On the other hand, there is the elephant in the room, the famous thumbnail. I have no doubt that this one itself has contributed, but it must also be said that putting one of the girls in the thumbnail does not guarantee such a huge success, this is the only eight-figure example. I could also go so far as to relate it to all the drama with Yui in 2018... but if it had anything to do with it, it would just be another plus factor.Another detail of no small importance is that the video includes Kamis solos in their entirety. This could be both positive and negative for views. Positive for the spectators who want and are interested in seeing the musicians in the spotlight, and negative for the impatient ones, those who have come to see the girls, and those who are not interested in the musicians. Also negative that solos are not in sync, for fox sake, as the rest of the video.TL;DR: We know that the song is top tier, BM has played it a lot live since its release, and it has been proven that a horrible fan video released many years later has been enough to position it among the most viewed videos of the band.Don't you think CMIYC was a wasted MV opportunity? Everything indicates that it could have been a great success, and even reach the top 3 of BM's most viewed MVs.
