For bitcoin to be actually useful as a currency its kind of clear some inflation in it is necessary in order to make people actually want to spend it. Most other countries figured this out pretty quickly so its kind of crazy that some sort of 5% or so inflation wasn't inbuilt in its design. Lack of inflation makes people want to hoard rather than spend.
